Sharks Draft Results - Day 2

July 22/2012 - The San Jose Sharks had only 2 picks for Day 2 of the 2012 draft on Sunday.  They had Winnipeg's 6th rounder (160th) and their own 7th rounder (183rd).

The Sharks made the following selections:

Winnipeg 6th (160th) - Ryan Olsen - Has big, quick, and excellent hands. Skates with a strong stride and good balance. He has good vision, but so far has not shown his talents on a consistent basis.

San Jose 7th - (183rd) - Joakim Ryan - Two-way defenseman who can QB the power play, and seems two feet above the competition in his anticipation, vision, and poise. Strong skater.

Sharks GM Kurt Fulmore says that he was very happy with their draft selections this year and are now looking forward to the rest of the offeseason, especially free agency.

Sharks Draft Results - Day 1

July 21/2012 - Well, the big day has finally come.  Draft Day.   The San Jose Sharks started the day with 4 selections.  Their own first, Pittsburgh's 2nd, Nashville's 2nd and Pittsburgh's 4th.  Here are the results from the first day of the 2012 draft for the San Jose Sharks:

San Jose 1st (3rd) -  Filip Forsberg -  Looks to be a two way player.   Has good hands, stride and snap shot.  Is willing to battle for the puck and show some physicality.

Pittsburgh 2nd (48th) - Cristoval Nieves - Has pro size, unreal agility for a bigger player.  Has top end speed as well.  Need to develop hands and be more physical.

Nashville 2nd (55th) - Brock McGinn - A very good skater with quickness, gears, and lateral agility that make him a noticed forechecker and player that puts pressure on the defense. Has a good shot.  Not the biggest player but plays like he is big.

Just before the Sharks were use Pittsburgh's 4th (115th), they dealt said pick to the Phoenix Coyotes for C/LW Ryan Bourque.  Sharks GM had this to say about the deal: "The guy we wanted with that pick went right before the pick.  I do beleve my reaction was "You fucker!"  When I had seen that Buffalo selected Ebert before we got to. (And No, Roger, I wasn't mad at you, just so you know. :D)  So Phoenix had sent us an offer on Ryan (Bourque) and took a look at how he was doing and what he could accomplise and we took the deal.  Ryan has the potential to be a two way forward with some offensive upside and we felt he'd probably be better than who we could get at that moment in time via the pick.  Also Ryan's brother, Chris, was very happy that his brother was a part of the team now."

As it stands right now, the Sharks have 2 selections in Day 2 of the 2012 draft.  They have Winnipeg's 6th (160th) and their own 7th rounder (183rd).  There is speculation that the Sharks may try and land a 5th rounder before tomorrow as there is apprently someone they have their eyes on in the 5th round.

Sharks pull trigger on one more deal

July 18/1012 - Sharks GM Kurt Fulmore pulled the trigger on one more deal before Saturday's draft.  The Sharks sent their 2nd round pick in the 2012 draft, prospect Chris Brown and one million dollars to the Minnesota Wild for d-man Marco Scandella, Winnipeg's 6th and San Jose 7th round picks in the 2012 draft.

"Terry came looking for a 2nd rounder."  Said Sharks GM Kurt Fulmore.  "He laid out some ideas he had.  I mentioned Scandella, since had him before and liked him back when we drafted him.  He said he was available, we hammered out the details and bingo.  Done deal."

Rumors are circulating that the Sharks might not be done dealing before Saturday's draft but nothing's been made official coming out of Sharks head office other than tonight's deal.

Sharks pull trigger on some deals, excited for draft

July 12, 2012 - Trade ban must be lifted as the Sharks have started some summer time activity.

The Sharks pulled the trigger on a few deals this week.

The first deal was a deal with the Colorado Avalance.  The Sharks sent Anahiem's 5th in 2012 to Colorado for prosepct Brian Day and Colorado's 7th in 2013.
The second deal was with the Buffalo Sabres.  The Sharks sent James Sheppard, Jeff Woywitka, Tim Conboy and Chicago's 3rd in 2012 to Bufflo for Michael Sauer, prospect Tobias Rieder and Buffalo's 4th in 2013.

The final deal was the Sharks sending JP Dumont back to Nashville for Daniel Alfredsson.

"I was pretty happy with all of these deals."  Said Sharks GM Kurt Fulmore.  "We feel we should get some good selections with the first and 3 second round picks we have in this draft so we shuffled some picks around picked up a couple more picks for next year's draft.  Got a little younger on D with Sauer coming to us but he looks to be a very serviceable shutdown D-man.  We were happy to get Tobias in the system as well.  Our scouts were happy to hear that we had acquired him.  They had seem him play for Kitchener when they were out in the field and they liked what they saw.   85 pts in 60 games.  Nice numbers.  Hopefully, it can translate to the pro level.  Last but not least, we welcome Daniel back.  We didn't really want to deal Alfy around the trade deadline last year but with what direction the team was going at the end of the season, it was something that had to be done.  I'm very pleased to get him back into the fold.  He can help chip in on offence, defence and give our younger team some good advice and insight to help them move forward in their careers."

The Sharks have 5 selections in this year's draft.  1 first, 3 seconds and 1 fourth round pick.
"We are always excited for the draft, especially when we have a high pick.  We still haven't decided who we want to select with our first rounder but we should have everything ironed out by this weekend."

Sharks GM Kurt Fulmore will, unfortunately, will be unable to attend this year's draft as other commitments are keeping him from attending.  (Dang work!!!)  His assistant Send Ing Alist will be making the selections for the Sharks in his absense.
